Turkey Shoot
Internal photo competition activity where members take photos of selected subjects throughout the season. Turkey Shoot awards slated for December 2026.

The Rules
This is a photography scavenger hunt. You now need to take a photo of each of the categories – if you are unable to take a photo of a subject, don’t worry, fill up as many of the 10 categories as you can. You are allowed to interpret the category as you wish as long as the judges can see the connection between your photo and the category. You are not allowed to use a photo you took before February 2, 2026. You are only allowed to submit one photo per category. It must be a printed photo with a minimum size 4X6” to a maximum size 5X7” (the Nelson Walmart does this very well).
The use of photo editing and internal camera adjustments is limited and discouraged as this competition is designed to test your ability to see a photo and take that photo, not edit that photo. However there are some more advanced modifications allowed and they include:
- Turning your photo into a black & white, infrared, monochrome or any other similar style (however if a photo category is a colour or requires colour, you should produce a colour photo)
- Cropping
- Noise reduction
- Scratch/dust removal
- Colour correction BUT NOT colour enhancement or colour modification except for the listed above. Be careful not to shoot a photo in “Vivid”, “Pop”, “Flat” or similar camera colour modes as those photos will be disqualified
- Sharpening/blurring
- Focus stacking
- HDR
- Minor lightening (aka to fix a shadow not wanted). Must be <25% of your photo
- Minor darkening (aka to fix a part of the photo that is too bright). Must be <25% of your photo
The deadline to submit your entry is the last official club meeting in November 2026 (TBD). If you do not submit an entry you are automatically entered into a lottery where I will randomly pick three club members to judge the entries.
All of your printed photos are to be taped to a stiff backing board (preferably black or white) no smaller than 20” x 30” and no larger than 20” x 40”. Various Dollar stores sell this backing material at minimal cost.
You are to bring your submission in a BLACK garbage bag where I will personally take it and assign it a control number. Your photos are to be numbered according to an official card (to come later) and must not have a title. Your name must not be on your submission. If you are unable to attend the deadline meeting, you may pass it to someone (in a garbage bag) to submit that day on your behalf or submit it early.
The photo panels will be displayed at our Annual Christmas Party and small cash prizes will be handed out to the winners.
